What is phishing, vishing and smishing?!
Lately, there has been a big increase in the number of spam emails across the internet that aim to lure people to click on links that could be harmful to your computer. The emails and links can be disguised to look like official correspondence but are actually ‘dodgy’. If you receive unsolicited or suspicious looking emails, you can mark the mail as spam and then delete it. If you have opened one, please do not click any of the links or visit any suggested websites listed in these mails. Doing so could compromise the security of your computer or could allow hackers to ‘phish’ for information that could be used fraudulently or for identity theft.

Early Years – Reading
Half of pre-school children being read to daily
The proportion of toddlers being read to every day has dropped by a fifth over the last five years. The annual Understanding the Children’s Book Consumer survey from Nielsen Book Research, interviewed 1,596 parents of 0 to 13-year-olds, and 417 14 to 17-year-olds in the UK last autumn. It found that while 69% of preschool children were read to daily in 2013, that figure had dropped to just 51%.

Childcare fees stopped for some relatives in pilot scheme
A law which stops childminders receiving funding for looking after relatives must change, the future generations commissioner has said.
Relatives, registered as childminders, had got funding under the Welsh Government’s free childcare scheme.
But the benefit has been stopped after it was found paying relatives breached legislation, and has now left some parents forced to make a decision between keeping their child with a childminder related to them, or placing them with other childminders or nurseries in order to receive the funding.

Tax Free Childcare available for all parents
Once parents have opened an account, for every £8 they pay in, the UK Government will pay in £2, up to a maximum of £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 for disabled children). This can then be spent on regulated childcare.
There are useful websites available that can provide further support on Tax-Free Childcare. The Childcare Choices website in particular, which includes a link to an easy-to-use childcare calculator.

Snow on the first day of Spring?!
…who would have thought it?! We hope you had lots of fun playing in the snow last week!
While one headteacher banned his students from touching the snow due to “health and safety” reasons, another headteacher from Reigate Grammar School in Surrey, tells parents to take children sledging on snow day.
He believes that snow days should be treasured, which is why he’s urged parents to take advantage of the frosty weather conditions by keeping their children home from school and enjoying the snow instead.
“Childhood passes by in the blink of an eye and there are too few days when we can play in the snow”
