Sessional Playworker – Y Bont, Bridgend

Background of Y Bont:

Y Bont is a registered, independent charity, CC number 1040818, that opened its’ doors in 1997.  It provides a daily nursery Monday to Friday 51 weeks of the year for disabled babies and children.  The centre in Bridgend caters for all types of disabilities and behavioural needs.  The staff ratio is very high to meet the complex needs of the children with many needing 1 to 1 support.

Y Bont’s mission statement is:

“Enabling children with a disability to fulfil their potential”

Our staff motto: “Together we can, Together we will, Together we do”

The original idea for Y Bont in its format as a child and family centre in Bridgend came from a group of parents of children with additional needs who were keen to establish somewhere that their children could go to learn and play. In 1993 they began a 4 year fundraising campaign to raise the funds to build the centre now known as Y Bont in the grounds of Heronsbridge School on Ewenny Road.  Unlike all other schools, Y Bont is not funded by the local authority, it is a charity and as such operates 51 weeks of the year.  This makes Y Bont as accessible to families of disabled children when they need us most.

Background to the Y Bont’s ‘Family Funzone’ Project:

The Y Bont’s ‘Family Funzone’ is an exciting new project funded by the Big Lottery Wales, People & Places Fund.

The project will be engaging with disabled children and their families to encourage them to build relationships and enjoy an active lifestyle together, by providing activities on evening’s, weekends and school holidays that the whole family can take part in.  A team of staff is required to work after school hours, on weekends and during school holidays to successfully deliver the project over its’ 5 year lifespan.
