Beat Flu

Beat Flu is a public health campaign in Wales run by Public Health Wales, and aims to raise awareness of the benefits of annual flu vaccination.

Annual flu vaccination is the single best way to protect against catching and spreading flu. Beat Flu’s most recent update focuses on the importance of flu vaccinations for children in particular.

Often children who get flu can feel very unwell and need a few days in bed, and for some it can cause serious illness. Complications include bronchitis, pneumonia and ear infections. Some children become so unwell they need to be admitted to hospital.

Children are also ‘superspreaders’ of flu, like other infectious illnesses. Annual flu vaccination not only protects them from catching flu it also reduces the risk of them passing it on.

To read more, take a look at the full letter here. This also includes a downloadable useful toolkit on how you can help support the Beat Flu team to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of flu vaccinations.

Welsh Government

Earlier this week, it was announced by Kirsty Williams, the Education Secretary for Wales, that there will be a big investment available in support for teachers.

The National Approach to Professional Learning (NAPL) will aim to help provide teachers the time and resources they need to plan ahead for Wales’ new curriculum.

Under the NAPL, Professional Learning will be an entitlement for all practitioners in schools, not just teachers.

Schools will also be encouraged to create, share and exploit learning opportunities with other schools and organisations as they work together in clusters.

For the Education Secretary’s full statement, please visit the Welsh Government website here.

Linking to the new curriculum for Wales…

Welsh Government have recently created an animation that looks at how Wales’ new curriculum and assessment arrangements are being built on progression, in line with ‘Successful Futures’.

Each Area of Learning and Experience will include progression steps, making learning and progression go together hand in hand.

Check out this useful animation created by Welsh Government here.
